National Tree Day is Australia's largest planting and nature care event and was started by Planet Ark. Inner West Council celebrates National Tree Day every year with community planting days, as well as a free tree giveaway to residents! The plantings will contribute to the area's local biodiversity and urban canopy for years to come.
This year's official National Tree Day will be held at White's Creek Valley Park in Annandale. This site is home to a huge variety of native wildlife such as Eastern Rosellas and Tawny Frogmouths, Common Ringtail Possums and Blue-tongued Lizards, among many others. Native fishes, frogs and turtles can also be found in the adjacent wetlands. Community plantings have occurred on this site since a local resident started in 1995, and these plantations have been critical in the formation of new habitat.
Council will supply gloves, trowels and other tools. Just show up with a water bottle, closed shoes and a hat!
Please note that the tree giveaway is offered to residents within the Inner West Council area only, and you will need to show proof of address on the day.
Council is also celebrating National Tree Day at two other sites across three weekends in July, 2018. Head to What's On to view them.
