Staff encouraged to hop on a bike
Wednesday, 15 March, 2017
Inner West Council staff will today embrace electric assist ‘e-bikes’ as part of the March-long Sydney Rides Business Challenge.
Marrickville based Glow Worm Bicycles will bring electric-assist bikes to the Council Administration building on Wetherill Street, Leichhardt on Wednesday 15 March at 2pm.
Council aims to get as many staff as possible riding one of the bikes at a try-a-bike event held today (Wednesday 15 March) at a number of Council buildings as part of the Challenge.
The Council bike fleet includes Leichhardt (two e-bikes and five push bikes), Petersham (two bikes), and St Peters (three bikes) and are capable to assist staff to travel between the three Council Service Centres and five Depots.
Administrator Richard Pearson said the aim today is to get staff, including himself, to test ride and learn more about the bikes.
“We are encouraging staff, including myself, to have a go and get a feel for the bikes that are part of a sustainable transport initiative led by the Council’s environment team,” Mr Pearson said.
“We want more people inducted to use the bike fleet in the long term to encourage a healthy workplace and provide less reliance on motor vehicles for short trips in the local area.”
During March as part of the Sydney Rides Business Challenge, Council will also hold more lunchtime rides to show people how to safely get the best out of the bikes.
The initial test rides are just around the carpark or street, not between Council buildings.
