Big Bike Week

To celebrate NSW Bike Week 2016, we ran free events and courses all week! From cycling rookies to pros, there was something for everyone.

Sunday 18 September 2016, 9am–1:30pm
Johnson Park, Dulwich Hill
Designed to improve your cycle skills and confidence while riding, this course is tailored to encourage safer cycling across the city and give you the flair you need to take to two wheels on a more regular basis.
Sunday 18 September 2016, 9am–12pm
Starts in Steel Park, 531 Illawarra Road, Marrickville
Enjoy a guided family fun ride along the scenic Cooks River. The route is mostly off-road.
There are two rides to choose from:
- 2 hour (16 km) return ride to Brighton Beach
- 30 mins (5km) return easy ride to Tempe Reserve
Riders meet in Steel Park. From 8:30am get your bike tuned for free by a bike mechanic before going on the ride. Registration is at 9am.
Riders need a road worthy bike, an approved helmet, water bottle and sunscreen. Adult supervision required for children under 18.
Wednesday 21 September 2016, 6:30–9pm
Ashfield Public School
Learn how to care for your bicycle and keep it running smoothly. Bring your bike to this hands on workshop and be prepared to get your hands dirty.
Saturday 24 September 2016, 6:25–8:30am
Return ride from Marrickville to Centennial Park
This low key bunch ride makes its way through Newtown and Redfern to Centennial Park. Meet at the Post Café Marrickville, corner of Silver Street and Marrickville road and return to Marrickville with the bunch for coffee and breakfast.
All you need to ride Saturday Slowies is a roadworthy bike, a helmet and lights! This ride is with the Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club.
Sunday 25 September 2016, 10am–2:30pm
War Memorial Park, Lilyfield (corner Moore & Catherine Sts)
Big Bike Day is an annual festival held every year in September, for both avid and casual bike riders of all ages. The day is completely FREE (including lunch and refreshments!) and features:
- BMX workshops and stunt shows with the Big Air School
- Free pedal-powered smoothies with Bike n' Blend
- Bike skills workshops for people of all ages and experience
- Free bicycle maintenance checks and bike valet parking
- Try-a-bike and unicycling lessons
- Free lunch, coffee and beverages!
- Rock climbing wall
- Raffle prizes
- Music and face-painting
There is a guided 6km ride at noon. Please arrive between 10-11:40am to register for the ride and get your bike checked. Participants must get their bicycles checked by our bike mechanics before going on the ride; wear a helmet; and be at least 12 years of age. The route is below:
