New Bin Rollout Out

New bin roll-out for Ashfield

Thank you for your patience whilst we work to improve your waste collection service.

The roll out of the new red and yellow lidded bins has commenced and is expected to take up to 5 weeks.

Your new bins will be delivered over the next 5 weeks during your recycling collection week.

During this period:
1. Please continue to use your old bins as normal until your new bins arrive.
2. Your new bins will arrive the day before your normal collection day. Please note, if your bins are collected on a Monday the new bins will arrive on the Friday before.
3. If you have not received your new bins by 31 March 2017, please contact Council.
For further information please call 9716 1800.

Council has not replaced bins in the Ashfield Service Area for over 14 years. Bins have a useful life of approximately 7–10 years.

A bin roll out company will be delivering the new bins and collecting the old.

Only your garbage (red lidded) and recycling (yellow lidded) bins will be changed over.

Your garden organics (green lidded) bin will not be changed. If your garden organics bin is damaged and needs replacing please contact Council to arrange repairs.

All old bins will be recycled for use in the manufacture of new bins. The wheel axles are recycled by a steel recycler.

If you have a new bin and there is nothing wrong with it, you will still get a replacement because it is more economical for Council to deliver the new bins to the whole of the area in one go.

About your new bin

The storage capacity of both bins are exactly the same as the old bins.

You will notice differences in the lid, as it has clear instructions on what can go in the bin.

To better service you, the new bins will also feature Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) technology enabling collection officers to better recognise where lost or stolen bins should be and return them.

Additional Bins

The Contractor is using Council’s rates database to allocate new bins. If you are paying for additional services then you will receive the additional bins.

If you do not receive the correct number of bins contact Council.

A Customer Service Officer can check how many bins are recorded against your property.

New tagging technology

New tagging technology is fast becoming a standard feature in garbage bin collection. The Inner West Council has already been using this technology in some service areas and is now using it in the Ashfield area to improve customer service.

The tags allow council to monitor if bins have been collected and what areas they have been collected in. For example, if you ring to report a missed bin, Council has real time information to see which bins have not been emptied in that street, if the bin has already been collected, or the reason why the bin may not have been collected.

The tags also allow us to see if bins have been stolen or moved to different houses and as a result have them returned more quickly.

The new technology can also provide Council with information in regard to waste contamination in recycling bins. Council will use the technology to educate people about the correct way to dispose of their waste.
