Install a rainwater tank, attend a workshop and receive a rebate

Inner West Council’ Rainwater Tank Incentive Scheme – a workshop and rebate program – is available to all rate payers, residents and businesses in the local government area. It is currently funded from the Stormwater Management Service Charge.

Council provides you with everything you need to know about rainwater tanks from choosing the right tank for you to how to claim rebates.

Council has offers the following rebate based on the volume of the tank(s) installed and how the water is used. Higher rebates are offered for larger tanks and those with internal plumbing to laundry, toilets and/or hot water*.

  • Low-income households – 50% extra to the standard rebate up to $3,000 for applicants who hold a Commonwealth Health Care Card or a Pensioner Concession card
  • Multi-unit dwellings – an additional $500 for flats, units and apartments with the rebate based on the number of connections to a maximum of three (3), and amounting to a maximum of 20c per litre of tank size is paid to the body corporate for tanks installed on common property

* Plumbing into hot water is not always suitable. Check with your plumber.

 

How do I apply for Council's rebate?

2. Attend a free compulsory technical rainwater tank installation workshop. Bookings are essential – please call Council on 9335 2222. The next workshop dates are:

  • Saturday 20 May 2017 from 9am to 12 noon, Newtown (to be advised on booking)

3. Install your rainwater tank

4. Complete the rebate application form (see part 1 above) and lodge with Council

5. Council will contact you to arrange a tank inspection
