Logo snippedThe NSW Seniors Festival, previously known as Seniors week, will run from Friday 3 to Sunday 12 March in 2017. The 2017 theme is "Let's do more together."

Who is NSW Seniors Festival for?

  • people over 60
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over the age of 50
  • people over 50 that have a lifelong disability

What's happening in the inner west

The Inner West Council is pleased to announce a range of activities across the Local Government Area in 2017. For all activities, priority will be given to inner west senior residents.

Mini bus tours

We want to celebrate our great facilities and activities across the inner west and are hosting some bus trips as a taster. Details are listed below about where to catch the mini bus. For all bus trips bring your own water and sun protection.

6 March 10am - 1pm
  • Visit the three Men’s Sheds in the area and enjoy a light lunch at one of the sheds
  • Pick up at Leichhardt Marketplace at 9:30am (see map section for location of pick up)

6 March 2pm - 5pm
  • Visit the Annette Kellerman and Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centres
  • Talk to a personal trainer at the outdoor gym and enjoy afternoon tea 
  • Pick up at 1:30pm from Petersham Service Centre (see map section for location of pick up).

8 March 10am - 1pm
  • Visit Camperdown Commons
  • Explore the pocket city farm with a guide
  • Enjoy morning tea

International Women's Day - Twilight Supper

Inner West Council and Leichhardt Women's Community Health Centre present a twilight supper to celebrate International Women's Day. The year's theme is "Be Bold for Change".

The festivities include:

  • A light supper with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine
  • MC Julie McCrossin and speakers on the topic of creating change and gender equality
  • Performance by Older Women's Network celebrating 30 years

 

Celebration lunch - Thursday 9 March

TheatreWhen: 10.30am (registration from 10am) - 1.30pm
Where: Marrickville Town Hall, 303 Marrickville Road (near the library and the corner of Petersham Rd), Marrickville. Parking is limited so consider public or private transport.

This year the festivities include:

  • Theatre, Salsa and ‘Songs from Next Door’ and the Wurlitzer organ - join in for a tune or two
  • A delicious free lunch
  • Limited transport available from Ashfield and Leichhardt pick up points (see map for location). For residents who live in the Petersham/Marrickville service centre area, please discuss access requirements when booking.

Come along and check it out... you don’t need to know anyone.

Rusty Riders for Seniors bicycle skills course

The Rusty Riders Seniors Course is tailored for those over the age of 60 who haven't ridden for a while and just need the confidence to start riding more regularly - whether for fun, fitness or to begin getting around their neighbourhood. This course is designed for those who know how to ride but need better bike handling skills before contemplating a ride on the road. The course runs at a slower pace and develops the skills and confidence required to be an effective bike rider.

Treading Lightly: Pests, Predators & Parasites in the Garden

Where: Whites Creek Cottage, 31 White Street, Lilyfield
RSVP: This is a free event that requires registration. Please register online through Eventbrite.

Observe and identify what flies and crawls around your garden. You'll learn how to attract the beneficials, and when and why the 'others' are likely to appear. The growth of a plant will be used as a guide.

Starting in the Whites Creek Cottage, this workshop will move out into the Whites Creek Community Food Forest where you'll have the chance to put your newly-learned skills into practice.

Wellbeing Expo

When: Tuesday the 28 March
Where: Ashfield Town Hall, Civic Centre - 260 Liverpool Road, Ashfield

  • Learn about what’s available locally to support your health and wellbeing.
  • Try something like zentangle  or easy stretches.
  • Local service providers will be available to answer your questions.
  • Ask someone about Health and fitness, help at home, home modifications or social activities.
